The zoo part of Bochum’s Tierpark and Fossilium opened in the 1930s. The small zoo has 350 species of animals. It includes both an aquarium and terrariums. The zoo focuses on larger enclosures for animal welfare. The fossil part of the zoo opened in 1996 and gives insight into animal life 150 million years ago.

There is also a petting zoo, special feeding hours to observe employees feed animals, and events throughout the year.
