For over 80 years Bochum’s Deutsches Bergbau Museum has researched and shared the history and development of various types of mining and the impact on our society. Today it is the world’s largest mining museum. This area is known for coal mining. But, the museum’s exhibits shed light on other mining such as salt, gold, silver, copper, and rare items as well. Above ground exhibits focus on three areas: mining engineering, geosciences and raw materials, and art and culture in mining. Underground, a reconstructed mine. Together they give a unique experience within the mining world.
Independent, guided tours, and workshops
Visitors can tour on their own or with a guide. Families with children 6 years and older can book guided tours. Additionally, children (8 and up) and adults can sign up for workshops for hands on mining fun.
